Awesome Family Idea {My Job Chart for Kids}

A few weeks ago I was blog hopping and came across a featured post that my friend, Mique from Thirty Handmade Days, had written about a new website she had discovered.  That same week another friend, Cheryl from TidyMom, wrote about it as well!

I was really intrigued by her description of My Job Chart and immediately went over to the site to check it out for myself.My_Job_Chart_2

The easiest way to learn more about the concept of My Job Chart is to watch the short information video that they have put together.  It immediately answered every question I could think of before I began to set up a free account for my family.  (This video can be found on their home page as well.)

Here’s my description of the website though…it’s by far the most effective tool I’ve found for getting my children to actually finish their chores on their own…and without complaining! I’m not kidding either.  I’ve struggled with getting my kids to consistently complete their chores daily for quite some time now. Since we set up our My Job Chart account, the struggle has become almost non-existent because they are each tracking what they have completed each day and they are each watching their personal reward points add up as they complete each one.  This in turn has made them so excited as they begin to decide if they’d rather save their points for bigger prizes or redeem them immediately for smaller ones.

Here are a few things that I absolutely love about My Job Chart:

  1. It’s FREE!
  2. It was really easy for me to set up as the parent.
  3. It’s incredibly simple for my kids to use (even Weston who is only 6!)
  4. I am able to set up each child’s account with chores that are specific to their age and abilities.
  5. Everything is customizable for each family.  The specific chores, the prizes that will appeal to your children and even the amount of points that they will receive for each chore they complete.
  6. It’s fun!  My daughter, Weslea, has been especially enthused over this new way of tracking and completing her chores.  Every morning she races around the house to complete her morning chores and then sits at the computer to check them off and earn her points.  Her enthusiasm (and the way she is wracking up some major points) has spurred my boys on to keep up with their chores as well.  There are times when a little peer pressure is a great thing!  🙂

Once you visit My Job Chart, you can begin setting up your account (all you need is your email address and you can get started!) and then customize it to your family and to each child as well.  In this next shot you can see how I have my main account (where I can track the chores and points for each specific child) and then I have accounts set up for each of the kids as well…

It is super easy for each of us to log into our individual accounts.  Each person just hovers over their photo, an orange box will show up and then they can then input their password.  Each child has their own account and password which then makes their account accessible only by them and the parent…My_Job_Chart_4

What I really love is that I can add any chore I can think of and I can set a reward for each chore according to how important it is to me for them to complete it.  So, if I’m having problems with the kids completing their morning routine in a timely manner, I could always up the points they will receive for completing those chores.  This really has helped cut down on major problem areas we were having with the kids finishing their chores in a timely manner and at the time that they needed to be completed.

After you visit My Job Chart, let me know what you think in the comments section below.  Or, if you have any questions about the website I’d be more than happy to try to answer them for you as well.
