I Heart Faces • Photojournalism

This week’s photo challenge theme at I Heart Faces is “Photojournalism” which we defined as: Using an image (or images) to tell a story.

When I think of photojournalism, I usually think of disaster relief or feeding the hungry or a missions trip or something equally dramatic.

My photo story will be much less life changing…since I have been blogging about our first experience with 4-H at the county fair last week, my story will be a tale of “How To Show A Turkey.”

There are two shows that a 4-H kid has to go through at the fair…Showmanship and Type.

Showmanship is much more formal and is done in the judging ring.  It consists of the kids showing off their skills in controlling their turkey, flipping their turkey (yes! they have to flip their turkey!) and being able to answer any turkey-related questions the judge might ask them.

Type is when the actual turkey is judged and it’s a lot more casual and much less stressful for the 4-H child.

My photos show off my daughter, Weslea, during her Type Showing.

Turkey Show Collage

Top Left:  Standing in line getting ready to walk out to the judge
Bottom Left:  Patiently waiting her turn while keeping her turkey under control
Top Right:  Flipping her turkey so that the judge can see how well her turkey is formed (my little girl is flipping and holding a turkey!)
Middle Right:  Patiently waiting (again) for the judge to finish with the kids after her
Bottom Right:  The way the kids have to stand to keep their turkeys under control during the judging.

Let me just say that there is a lot more to Turkey Showing than this mama ever imagined!

As co-founder of IHF, I’m entering the challenge just for fun.  Be sure to head over to I Heart Faces to show off your Photojournalistic type photos this week…
