"No Flash!" Photo Challenge

This week’s theme was the easiest one yet for me, mainly because I have been drawn to natural light photography since I first started becoming interested in becoming a better photographer. Due to that, I have worked really hard to learn how to shoot without using any flash in almost any type of situation. It’s probably the most important thing I’ve done when it comes to improving my photography.
This photo of my oldest son, Will, was taken at a local jungle gym/laser tag type of place. I was sitting on a bench watching my kids play when Will ran over to chat with me a bit. Lucky for me, he was sitting there talking to me while facing the great “shaded light” source of the window. That little bit of light helped me capture this photo of Will that is one of my all-time favorites of him.

This photo was taken last July when we went to NJ to visit my brother, Jeff, and his wife, Danielle. We try to make a special visit to see them at least once a year and they are so gracious when we invade and take over their (so far!) childless home with our four crazy munchkins.

This year, we decided to spend one entire day at the Jersey shore and it was one of the best family days we’ve ever experienced. Jeff and Danielle both went out of their way to make it a wonderful day for our children…Jeff spending hours with the kids out on their boogie boards in the waves and Danielle spending hours with the kids on the shore finding seashells. My kids are so lucky to have them!

This is a photo of Danielle comforting my little guy, Weston, after he lost his “squishy” (a teeny-tiny jellyfish that he had adopted for the day.)
