"Creative Crop" Photo Challenge

This week’s theme at I Faces is “Creative Crop.” I think it’s going to be really inspiring to see how everyone makes a huge change to their photos, just by cropping their photo in a creative way. (If you want to read more detailed info about this week’s theme and other upcoming themes, please click here.)

Amy and I decided that this week’s theme would be more fun if we could all show off our entry photos and the photo before we cropped it. Here are my entries:

This is my friend’s young daughter, Riley, and her eyes are so incredibly gorgeous. Just amazing! For this week’s entry I tried to crop the original image in a creative way to put all of the focus on her beautiful eyes.

This is my friend, Lori, and her teeny-tiny baby, Kalvin, whom I was lucky enough to take photos of a couple of months ago. After taking a lot of formal-type shots of Kalvin, he began to get fussy and hungry. This photo was shot during an intimate moment between mommy and baby.

My sister Andrea, who is our Photoshop Elements tutorial expert at I Faces (and who is also going to kill me for saying that on my blog!) tried to teach me how to add a clip mask to my photo in Photoshop tonight. My adult entry is my first attempt at a clip mask and I’m thinking I need to practice a bit more before I get it perfect. I loved the way it complemented this photo though and I also liked the way the cropping of my photo seemed to showcase just how intimate that moment really was.

If you have no idea what a clip mask is (I didn’t before tonight!) it’s your lucky week! Andrea is going to try to put together a tutorial on how to add a clip mask to your photo in Photoshop Elements and Photoshop for I Faces this week. I can’t wait to see her step-by-step instructions on this. Such a cool technique!

I hope you’ll be able to join us for the fun this week ~ I can’t wait to see all of the beautiful, creatively cropped photos that are entered.
