A Happy Day For Our Family.

My “baby” brother, Jon, asked his girlfriend, Kathy, to marry him last night.

We are so completely thrilled to welcome another sister to our family!

Jon and Kathy met at my mom and dad’s house this past weekend because they were going to attend a wedding in our area. My brother let us in on his engagement surprise because he wanted us to go out of our way to make sure that Kathy was fully aware that he was going to be kept very busy in Ohio and was not going to be anywhere near Pennsylvania (where her parents live and where she was going to be heading for the holidays) on Christmas Day.

I am so, so, so, so, sooooooooo happy that he let us in on his secret so that we had a few fun days to feel fully involved in the surprise he was planning for her.

I, for one, was giddy with excitement and enjoyed the hours we got to spend together on Christmas Eve talking about the elaborate setting he was planning to set up for their big moment.

Jon took off on Christmas morning for the drive to Pennsylvania where he then spent the entire day setting up the scene of their engagement…tons of luminaries lighting up a path to the woods behind her parent’s home that led to where he had a tree set up with hundreds of Christmas lights. In the meantime, Kathy’s family kept her busy, busy, busy so that she’d have no idea that Jon was anywhere near their home.

When it was finally dark outside and Kathy’s dad tricked her into going outside, she then followed the candlelit path to where Jon was waiting. When she finally made it to that spot, he turned on a generator that lit up the beautiful tree he had decorated and showed just who she was walking back there to meet.

Awwwwwwwwwww…I mean, how can you not adore a brother that goes through that much thought and detail to plan one of the most romantic moments of his soon-to-be-wife’s life?

{Although, I don’t think it would have been too much to ask for him to allow me to hide in the woods during that time to take photos of their big moment. A bit creepy, but still…the inconsideration of some people.} Hee!

A young man who is deeply in love? This is the perfect picture of that…

Congratulations Kathy and Jon! We are so very happy for you….and so very happy for us too!
